New York State Police Troop T participated in the “Check Your Height, Know It’s Right” campaign at the end of July along the New York State Thruway. The initiative’s goal is to reduce bridge and overpass strikes involving commercial motor vehicles through education and targeted enforcement.

The New York State Thruway Authority and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) today announced the launch of a statewide public service announcement (PSA) campaign aimed at educating motorists about New York's Move Over Law and the dangers of distracted driving.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that New York State Police Troop T, in partnership with the New York State Thruway Authority, seized 214 vehicles and issued more than 1,100 tickets during four statewide enforcement details on the Thruway system to proactively address the use of missing, altered, or obscured license plates (known as ghost plates) that some motorists intentionally use to avoid tolls. The enforcement details took place during the first half of this year along the 570-mile Thruway system in the Capital, Hudson Valley and Western New York regions.

Governor Kathy Hochul today urged New Yorkers to exercise caution ahead of a storm forecast to bring heavy rain throughout the state Tuesday and Wednesday with flash flooding likely. Beginning Tuesday, a weather system will stall over the state bringing prolonged rain, thunderstorms and flash flooding. The Mid-Hudson, New York City and Long Island regions have a Moderate or 40 to 70 percent chance for flash flooding, while the Capital Region and Mohawk Valley have a Slight risk or 15 to 40 percent chance. The rest of the state has a Marginal flash flood risk or 5 to 15 percent chance. Widespread rainfall totals of two to five inches are likely, with localized peak totals of six inches of rainfall possible. Areas across the Catskills could see totals of six to eight inches of rainfall through Wednesday morning. With heavy rain, scattered flash flooding is likely, which will make travel hazardous due to ponding water and reduced visibility.

This year’s “Check Your Height, Know It’s Right!” campaign runs from Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31 and aims to educate drivers about their responsibility in preventing bridge strikes.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the start of a $54.4 million structural steel repair and seismic retrofit project on the South Grand Island Bridges in Erie County. More than 70 percent of the funding for the infrastructure project comes from a federal grant awarded to the Thruway Authority.

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the Bennetts Corners Road bridge (milepost 294.52) over the Thruway (I-90), which is located between exit 39 (Syracuse - Fulton - I-690 - NY Route 690) and exit 40 (Weedsport - Auburn - NY Route 34) in Onondaga County, will temporarily close to traffic to allow the Thruway Authority to safely perform bridge joint work on the bridge. Approximately 800 motorists travel on the bridge daily.

The New York State Thruway Authority and its Service Area Operator Applegreen today announced a record 800,000 guests visited the Thruway’s 27 Service Areas during the July 4th Independence Day travel week. Additionally, more than 360,000 guest transactions were recorded during the week, or one in every two travelers that used a Thruway Service Area made a purchase.

On July 14, 2026, New York State Police Troop T conducted its latest Operation Hard Hat along the New York State Thruway, issuing a total of 50 tickets, 46 of which were for speeding.

Governor Kathy Hochul today urged New Yorkers to prepare ahead of severe thunderstorms set to impact the North Country and statewide extreme heat beginning Tuesday. For parts of the North Country, there is an Enhanced Risk, meaning a greater likelihood, for severe thunderstorms beginning Tuesday afternoon, continuing into Tuesday night. Damaging winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes could occur with these storms. Additionally, Heat Advisories are currently in effect for areas across the state for Tuesday and Wednesday.
