The New York State Thruway Authority today announced ramps at exit 49 (Depew-Lockport) on I-90 will be closed overnight on Sunday, June 9 and Monday, June 10. The temporary closures are to allow crews to repair guiderails and perform routine bridge maintenance.
Beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, through 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, the on-ramps at exit 49 will be closed to all traffic entering I-90. Traffic exiting the Thruway will not be impacted. On Monday, June 10, at 10 p.m. through Tuesday, June 11, at 3 a.m., the on-ramps to I-90 will once again be closed to traffic. Additionally, the westbound exit ramp from the Thruway will be closed during this time.
While the closures are in place, travel will be allowed between Transit Road and the Tandem and Park and Ride lots. Longer Combination Vehicles (LCV) and Tandem vehicles are encouraged to utilize the exit 48 (Batavia) tandem lots for LCV/Tandem operations.
Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
To further enhance safety for workers in a work zone, Governor Hochul signed legislation establishing the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement pilot program. The safety enforcement program began in April 2023 and is in effect in various active construction zones on the Thruway. Work zones with speed camera enforcement will have clear signage leading up to it and motorists violating the posted speed limit within the work zone will be fined. More information on the program can be found here.
For up-to-date travel information, motorists are encouraged to download the Thruway Authority’s mobile app which is available for free on iPhone and Android devices. The app provides motorists direct access to real-time traffic and navigation assistance while on the go.
