Parking/Rest Areas and Welcome Centers

There are 12 Parking/Rest Areas and 3 Welcome Centers located at convenient intervals on the Thruway system. These parking/rest areas and welcome centers are open 24 hours daily and offer parking and emergency call stations, *unless otherwise noted. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended at any parking/rest area or welcome center along the Thruway. Vehicles left unattended will be towed at the owner's expense.

I-190 SouthBOUND (Niagara Falls to Buffalo)

17.2	12 miles north of Buffalo	Off Exit 19 (Whitehaven Road via Alvin Road) Western New York Welcome Center Public restrooms, Taste NY Market, Kiosks, playground, Three Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Pet Comfort Areas. Western New York Welcome Center Located Off Exit 19 (Whitehaven Road via Alvin Road in the Town of Grand Island between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Opened in August 2018, the Western New York Welcome center is inspired by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright and represents the gateway to the world-class destinations and historic sites located in the Western New York region. Open 24 hours a day, the Welcome Center features a community room, an I LOVE NY "selfie wall," an historic artifacts display, a floor map of regional attractions, and café style seating with tables that will provide an enhanced visitor experience. Other features include: Taste NY Market and café showcasing a broad selection of fresh made items; Grab-and-go snacks, craft beverages and specialty local items for sale by local producers; Great Lakes shipwreck theme playground; Electric vehicle charging stations; Motorcycle shelter; Pet comfort area; Parking spaces for cars, buses/RVs, and trucks. The Taste NY Market at the WNY Welcome Center is operated by the Cornell Cooperative Extension. The Community Room at the WNY Welcome Center can be reserved by local community groups or non-profit organizations on a first-come, first-serve basis. To book the community room, please visit Cornell Cooperatives website to fill out the application form . Opened in April 2017, the Mohawk Valley Welcome Center runs along one of the most scenic sections of the Erie Canal and Mohawk River and offers travelers a state-of-the-art, year-round facility showcasing the Mohawk Valley’s rich history and directing visitors to the region’s top tourism destinations. Other features include: Taste NY Market selling locally made food and beverages, “Path Through History” along the historic Erie Canal at Lock E13, Walk of Fame highlighting influential individuals from the Mohawk Valley, ADA compliant playground, Covered porch overlooking the scenic Erie Canal, Three electric vehicle charging stations, Pet comfort areas.

Opened in November 2018, the Capital Region Welcome Center, featuring a historic Dutch-style building facade, represents the gateway into the Capital Region for northbound travelers and promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food and beverages. The Capital Region Welcome Center features regionally-specific elements linked to the history and natural beauty of the Hudson River Valley, which includes such attractions as the New York State Capitol, the historic Saratoga Race Course, and the Lake George region.
